This is a brief overview of some differences between the city-states of Athens and Sparta in ancient Greece. DISCLAIMER: As much as I desire to share as much as I can about the topics in the forthcoming episode, I understand that I have five minutes or less to expose information. There will be info skipped, glossed over or missed. These episodes are supposed to be a starting point for learning about the topics, not an ending point. Enjoy the episode. History of Ancient Sparta: Geography And Origins (Lecture 2)

32:58
A born teacher and lecturer, Professor Timothy B. Shutt examines the history and culture of ancient Sparta, a society renowned for military excellence and adherence to the values of courage, discipline, duty, and the overcoming of fear. Vastly outnumbered at the Battle of Thermopylae, the Spartan "300" (there were technically more than just them) held off an overwhelming Persian force before finally succumbing - but not without inflicting massive casualties and inspiring the rest of the Greeks with the notion that they could persevere. In this enlightening series of lectures, Professor Shutt delves into Spartan culture, examining its origins, government, religion, and the major events that defined its history. This is an interesting overview of Sparta, and I'm not sure that we can really get much more than an overview of Sparta, all things considered. They weren't so much a "that's important... maybe we should write that down...." kind of people. With that in mind, one of the things that makes this particular set of lectures interesting is that Shutt goes out of his way to take the Spartan POV in her conflicts, particularly within Greece itself. The Persians are often the bogeymen of Ancient Greek Studies, and that's largely the case here as well, but Shutt is more scathing in his analysis of Athens and Athenians in particular. The Athenians were much more of a "write that down..." kind of people, and as such they are treated better by historians for the most part. Shutt's version of the Athenians is much more skeptical, and at the very least that makes for a worthwhile piece of work. He's critical of Sparta as well, though he may be a bit muted all things considered, but there's no shortage of that material, so his take isn't as glaring. I would take issue with a few of his interpretations, but not enough to take off a star. They are a matter of degree not determination. Overall, I give this one a big, Spartan "Woo! Woo! Ah-Woo!" or whatever it was they were doing in those movies, mostly because listening to a set of lectures on the Spartans is kind of the opposite of that. If for no other reason it's worth a listen. Athens is facing a big decision: what to do with the people of Mytilene, a city on the island of Lesbos where a revolt against Athenian rule has just been put down. How did these kinds of decisions get made? Robert Garland outlines a day in the life of Athenian democracy. Lesson by Robert Garland, animation by Zedem Media. Originally created by legendary game designer Sid Meier, Civilization is a turn-based strategy game in which you attempt to build an empire to stand the test of time. Become Ruler of the World by establishing and leading a civilization from the Stone Age to the Information Age. Wage war, conduct diplomacy, advance your culture, and go head-to-head with history’s greatest leaders as you attempt to build the greatest civilization the world has ever known. Civilization VI offers new ways to engage with your world: cities now physically expand across the map, active research in technology and culture unlocks new potential, and competing leaders will pursue their own agendas based on their historical traits as you race for one of five ways to achieve victory in the game. EXPANSIVE EMPIRES: See the marvels of your empire spread across the map like never before. Each city spans multiple tiles so you can custom build your cities to take full advantage of the local terrain. ACTIVE RESEARCH: Unlock boosts that speed your civilization’s progress through history. To advance more quickly, use your units to actively explore, develop your environment, and discover new cultures. COMBINED ARMS: Expanding on the “one unit per tile” design, support units can now be embedded with other units, like anti-tank support with infantry, or a warrior with settlers. Similar units can also be combined to form powerful “Corps” units. Free is nice, but if you can afford to pay a little every month, it really helps us to continue producing this content. In which John Green teaches you about Homer's Odyssey. If it was Homer's If Homer was even real. Anyway, that stuff doesn't really matter. John teaches you the classic, by which I mean classical, epic poem, the Odyssey. The Journey of Odysseus as he made his way home after the conclusion of the Trojan War is the stuff of legend. Literally. John will teach you about the double standard in Greek culture, Odysseus as jerk/hero, ancient PTSD, and cycles of violence. Also, there are no yogurt jokes. So think of that as a gift. Trade Forex successfully - Basic Spartan System Video Course

http://www.simplesmartforex.com/stop-losing-money-in-10-minutes Are you still interested in trading Forex but worried about losing money? I made this 10 minutes video to show you how to change this fast & simple. Just click this link to watch it right away… http://www.simplesmartforex.com/stop-losing-money-in-10-minutes/ My name is Nikos Mermigas and I am going to teach you the basics of the spartan Forex trading system to understand what is important, before you jump in blindly. Success in Forex trading is more a attitude and mindset then a skill. The Spartan trading system is based on technical analysis and easy to understand. History of Ancient Sparta: Government And Religion (Lecture 4)

27:38
(Goodreads Review) Course Lectures are as stated: Lecture 1: Aura and Overview Lecture 2: Geography and Origins Lecture 3:Institutions Lecture 4: Government and Religion Lecture 5: Spartan Art and Culture Lecture 6: Women in Sparta Lecture 7: The Early Days (Before the Persian Wars) Lecture 8: The Ionian Revolt Lecture 9: Their Finest Hour Part One Lecture 10: Their Finest Hour Part Two Lecture 11: The Triumph of the Greeks Lecture 12: Earthquake, Revolt, Storm-clouds Gathering (The Outbreak of the Peloponnesian War Lecture 13: Sparta Triumphant Lecture 14: Triumph and Nemesis

Richard attended Aston University, where he studied Psychology and trained under Richard Bandler, the co-developer of Neuro-Linguistic Programming. Much of Grannon’s specific interest in narcissistic abuse originally stemmed from personal relationships — he’d witnessed it firsthand before and could tell something that something was wrong or “off,” yet he couldn’t quite identify it. It was only through his psychological training that he began to recognize patterns of narcissistic abuse. Richard realized that this was likely the case for victims worldwide: they were either unaware of how they were being treated or unaware of any possible solutions to their problems. Richard graduated with a BSc in Psychology and a renewed sense of purpose. He could offer direct, practical solutions for narcissistic abuse victims and help them reclaim their self-worth. As an NLP Master Practitioner Richard Grannon cherishes his ability to reach a wide range of people. He’s worked with people from all kinds of different backgrounds and guided them toward the way out, all while helping them take back their power and sharpen their sense of reality. He draws on elements of numerous forms of psychotherapy, such as NLP, cognitive behavioral therapy, zen meditation, psychodynamics and more, to create the most effective and personalized solutions possible for each individual client. One of Richard’s most effective ways of promoting healing and growth is by running a course for overcoming narcissistic abuse. The sad truth behind the concept is that there is little recognition of it as a major problem for victims, and Richard decided to create his own resource that people could turn to the Spartan Life Coach course. The course directly addresses the mental health needs of victims of emotional and psychological abuse and provides life-changing video tutorials, hypnosis visualization tracks, and written exercises. Although Richard started his career doing one-on-one sessions, he now focuses more on courses like this as well as seminars so that he can reach more people than ever and inspire hope around the globe. No matter what his professional role is, Richard Grannon believes in empowering people and helping them rediscover their own worth. ------------------------------- Subscribe to the SLC newsletter and get the Narcissism Survival Kit Mini Course! ➡︎ http://bit.ly/SLC-Subscribe ------------------------------- Let’s connect on social media! Please read my blog post for information on why this is reuploaded: http://heatherfeatherasmr.blogspot.com/2014/02/asmr-after-battle-why-i-had-to-take.html "Lights will guide you home...and I will try to fix you."---ColdPlay Hello everyone! This ASMR video features: Ear to Ear Whispering, Ear Massage, Ear Brushing, Ear to Ear Soft Speaking, Typing, Loads of Binaural Sounds (that have been fan favorites---pop rocks, insulation hose, stone butterfly, magic 8 ball, happy sad onion man, latex gloves, rotary phone and cord, etc), Rain, Fire, Ice, Water, and lots of Electronic/Robotic Sounds. This vid is my tribute to the video game "Halo", Gundam Wing, Iron Man, and any other heroes who use suits of mechanical armor to save the world. If you used to play Halo online some years back, you might have played with me---I was the one saying "I am not a little boy!" and "Protect meeee!" This is the role play I have been working on for the last month, and it is my last role play of 2013. I used close to 160 different sounds, and I was using different/new software and techniques. Often I was left feeling quite inept (since I don't take well to learning new tech stuff), and there might have been tears of frustration shed making this...but for better or worse, I saw it through (with the help of some very wonderful asmrtists, and also a real life friend who wouldn't let me give up---thank you). I took a lot of viewer feedback into account (as far as trying to balance out speaking and sounds). I truly hope it works for you. Happy Viewing! I must give a huge thank you to johnrabbit83 who created the channel intro animation using a piece of art made for me by a wonderful woman named Celia. Both gave me these gifts randomly, and I am forever grateful. This is another example of how you help me create and evolve this channel. Written by Mylo Voiced by Comicstorian https://www.youtube.com/user/Comicstorian Animated by Zeurel: http://www.youtube.com/user/Zeurel Transcript: After Master Chief, John-117, abated the Didact’s plans of creating a Promethean Army, he rejoined his fellow Spartan IIs of the legendary Blue Team - Fred-104, Kelly-087, and Linda-058. Working with ONI, a naval branch known for using deception to protect humanity at all costs, Blue Team was deployed on classified missions, including re-encountering and defeating the Didact and fighting off Covenant Remnant forces. Meanwhile, Agent Locke, a former mercenary assassin now serving under ONI, made a name for himself after destroying Lekgolo mining operations on Alpha Shard. With his exemplary record, Locke was selected to become a Spartan-IV, undergoing augmentation procedures and essentially becoming a supersoldier, though not nearly as powerful as the Spartan IIs. During an ONI Mission, John-117 sees visions of Cortana, his AI companion who sacrificed herself during their first meeting with the Didact; she tells him to go to the human colony of Meridian. Soon after, Meridian is breached by a Guardian, a colossal Forerunner construct capable of slipspace travel. When ONI officials spot Blue Team on the colony, they’re blamed for the attack and send Locke’s unit, Fireteam Osiris, to hunt down the rogue Blues. With the stage set for the Spartan IIs and Spartan IVs to square off, it’s up to you to take control of their leaders and prevent a cataclysmic event known only as the “reclamation.” Have fun! --------- Polaris Animated Universe: http://bit.ly/1P77c59 Lore! http://bit.ly/nNfsws --------- JOIN POLARIS: http://bit.ly/17MTzDW POLARISGO: http://bit.ly/1ec7Hu6 Twitter: http://bit.ly/12ecJOw Facebook: http://on.fb.me/12Ue00n Google+: http://bit.ly/16l2toB Instagram: http://bit.ly/1aiOYgZ Tumblr: http://bit.ly/13HgrW4 Music courtesy of Epidemic Sound and Audio Micro --------- Thanks for watching Lore!

Simon Sinek: Why Leaders Eat Last

45:51
About this presentation In this in-depth talk, ethnographer and leadership expert Simon Sinek reveals the hidden dynamics that inspire leadership and trust. In biological terms, leaders get the first pick of food and other spoils, but at a cost. When danger is present, the group expects the leader to mitigate all threats even at the expense of their personal well-being. Understanding this deep-seated expectation is the key difference between someone who is just an "authority" versus a true "leader." For more on this topic, check out Sinek's latest book Leaders Eat Last: Why Some Teams Pull Together and Others Don't now available for pre-order. About Simon Sinek A trained ethnographer and the author of Start With Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action, Simon Sinek has held a life-long curiosity for why people and organizations do the things they do. Studying the leaders and companies that make the greatest impact in the world and achieve a more lasting success than others, he discovered the formula that explains how they do it. Sinek's amazingly simple idea, The Golden Circle, is grounded in the biology of human decision-making and is changing how leaders and companies think and act. His innovative views on business and leadership have earned him invitations to meet with an array of leaders and organizations, including Microsoft, Dell, SAP, Intel, Chanel, Members of the United States Congress, and the Ambassadors of Bahrain and Iraq. Sinek recently became an adjunct staff member of the RAND Corporation, one of the most highly regarded think tanks in the world. He also works with the non-profit Education for Employment Foundation to help create opportunities for young men and women in the Middle East region. He lives in New York, where he teaches graduate level strategic communications at Columbia University. What Is Grit and How Can You Learn It? we ask the Expert Angela Duckworth ep.011

32:56
http://spartanuppodcast.com/011 Angela Duckworth, Associate Professor of Psychology at Penn, not only studies grit, she epitomizes it. She has doggedly researched the concept for a decade. Despite what may appear to be over the top determination, even obsessiveness, those with the quality are unusually down-to-earth. They're that rare breed who has their head in the clouds but their feet on the ground, which, surprisingly, means that Spartan Race co-founder Joe Desena may not be so crazy after all. Lessons: 1. Sustaining passion and endurance over time (years) is essentially the definition of grit. 2. People who are gritty have a cognitive mindset to focus on things that they can change. They are positive and optimistic. 3. Always remember that no great human achievement exists that doesn't have thousands of hours of work behind it. Panel Notes: Joe Desena: Do you know what grit is? Do you have it? Have you ever quit anything and regretted it? Well, Angela has been studying grit for a long time and knows how important it is as a predictor of success. If you don't have it, get some. Col. Nye: Grit is sustained passion over a length of time for a singular long term goal. There is an environmental component. It’s not just genetics. It can be developed. Gritty people have a cognitive mindset to focus on what they can change and screen out that which they cannot. Sefra Alexandra: In 1777, sixteen-year-old Sybil Ludington rode through the night on horseback to alert American Colonial forces of the British’s approach completing a similar feat as Paul Revere’s, yet covering twice the distance Revere travelled by herself without getting captured. This, by any standard, personifies grit. Professor Duckworth will explain why.
