Dougie MacLean's most famous pieces include "The Gael", from his 1990 album The Search, which was adapted by Trevor Jones as the main theme to The Last of the Mohicans (1992); and "Caledonia", from his first album. The World Famous Royal Scots Dragoon Guards have been at the forefront of Pipe music since first achieving world wide fame in 1972 when their haunting version of "Amazing Grace" rocketed to the top of the charts all around the world. The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards are Scotland`s senior regiment and only regular cavalry regiment. The Regiment was formed in 1971 from the amalgamation of the 3rd Carabiniers ( whom were themselves the result of the amalgamation of the 6th Dragoon Guards the Carabiniers and the 3rd the Prince of Wales Dragoon Guards in 1922) and The Royal Scots Greys (2nd Dragoons). The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards are Scotland’s most senior and only regular cavalry regiment, formed in 1678. The Regiment has recently re-rolled to Light Cavalry after 75 years in tanks and has also moved from Germany to Fife. The Regiment is currently undergoing training to be at readiness as the Light Cavalry Regiment of choice. The new role of Light Cavalry is at the forefront of the British Army’s organisation, primarily as a mounted combat unit, but also working alongside other armies around the world. The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards form the main armoured force for the 7th Armoured Brigade, The Famous Desert Rats. A view of the Scottish scenery taken from across Scotland. A view of the Scottish country taken from across Scotland. Accompanied by the music Amazing Grace performed by The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards.from the Spirit Of The Glen Album. "Amazing Grace" is a Christian hymn published in 1779, with words written by the English poet and Anglican clergyman John Newton (1725–1807). Newton wrote the words from personal experience. He grew up without any particular religious conviction, but his life's path was formed by a variety of twists and coincidences that were often put into motion by his recalcitrant insubordination. He was pressed (conscripted) into service in the Royal Navy, and after leaving the service, he became involved in the Atlantic slave trade. In 1748, a violent storm battered his vessel off the coast of County Donegal, Ireland, so severely that he called out to God for mercy, a moment that marked his spiritual conversion. He continued his slave trading career until 1754 or 1755, when he ended his seafaring altogether and began studying Christian theology. Amazing grace! How sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found; Was blind, but now I see. ’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, And grace my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed. Through many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come; ’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, And grace will lead me home. The Lord has promised good to me, His Word my hope secures; He will my Shield and Portion be, As long as life endures. Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail, And mortal life shall cease, I shall possess, within the veil, A life of joy and peace. The earth shall soon dissolve like snow, The sun forbear to shine; But God, who called me here below, Will be forever mine. When we’ve been there ten thousand years, Bright shining as the sun, We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise Than when we’d first begun. I hope you enjoy viewing :)

A view of the Scottish country taken from around Scotland. Many of these photo's were taken by friends. Accompanied by the music Amazing Grace sung by Karen Matheson. O Miorbhail gràis (Amazing grace) O Miorbhail gràis! nach breagh'an ceòl; 'S e lorg mi 's mi air chall, Air seachdran dorch', gun neart, gun treòir, 'S a dh'fhosgail sùilean dall. 'S e gràs thug eòlas dhomh air in'fheum; 'S e gràs thug saors' is sìth; 'S cha cheannaicheadh òr a'chruinne-chè Chiad-là bha fios nam chrìdh'. Tro iomadh cunnart's trioblaid chruaidh Thug E gu sàbhailt mi. An gràs a shaor bhon bhàs le buaidh Chan fhàg 's cha trèig gu sìor. San dachaigh bhuan gun uair gun tìm, 'S deich mìle bliadhn' mar là, Cha sguir an ceòl's chan fhàs iad sgìth A'seinn a chaoidh mun ghràs.

Seinn an duan seo dhan Innis Àigh Sing this song to the Happy Isle An innis uaine as gile tràigh The green isle of whitest sands Bidh sian air uairean a' bagairt cruaidh ris Though storms at times threaten severely Ach se mo luaidh-sa bhith ann a' tàmh It is where I love to be Càit' as tràith an tig samhradh caomh Where does summer come earlier? Càit' as tràith an tig blàth air craobh Where do trees come into bloom sooner? Càit' as bòidhche 's an seinn an smeòrach Where does the thrush sing more sweetly Air bhàrr nan ògan 's an Innis Àigh On the tips of branches, than in the Happy Isle? An t-iasg as fiachaile dlùth don tràigh The most prized fish closest to land Is ann ma chrìochan is miann leis tàmh Wishes to live about its shores Bidh gillean easgaidh le dorgh is lìontan Lively youths hunt it early in the morning Moch, moch ga iarriadh mun Innis Àigh With line and net, around the Happy Isle 'S ged thèid mi cuairt chun an taoibh ud thall And although I sometimes go to the mainland 'S mi 'n dùil air uairibh gu fan mi ann And at times even think that I could stay there Tha tàladh uaigneach le teas nach fuairich A sad longing whose heat never cools Gam tharraing buan don Innis Àigh Always draws me back to the Happy Isle O 's geàrr an ùine gu'n teirig latha It is only a short time until the close of day Thig an oidhche 's gun iarr mi tàmh Night will come and I will want for rest Mo chadal buan-sa bidh e cho suaimhneach My eternal sleep will be so peaceful Mo bhios mo chluasag 's an Innis Àigh If I lay my head in the Happy Isle

The Gael played by The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards Bagpipes The Last of the Mohicans is a 1992 historical epic film set in 1757 during the French and Indian War and produced by Morgan Creek Pictures. It was directed by Michael Mann and based on James Fenimore Cooper's novel of the same name and George B. Seitz's 1936 film adaptation, owing more to the latter than the novel. The film stars Daniel Day-Lewis, Madeleine Stowe, and Jodhi May, with Russell Means, Wes Studi, Eric Schweig, and Steven Waddington in supporting roles. The soundtrack features music by Trevor Jones and Randy Edelman, and the song "I Will Find You" by Clannad. The main theme of the film is taken from the tune "The Gael" by Scottish singer-songwriter Dougie MacLean. Released on September 25, 1992, in the United States, The Last of the Mohicans was met with nearly-universal praise from critics as well as being commercially successful during its box-office run.

"A ghaoil, leig dhachaigh gum mhàthair mi " Love let me home to my mother performed by Julie Fowlis Taken from Julie’s fourth studio album, this hypnotic and mysterious song tells the tale of a young girls’ encounter with the ‘each-uisge’ or water-horse. Featuring award winning Scottish ensemble RANT, with strings arranged by flautist and composer Tom Doorley. Love, let me home to my mother Love, let me home to my mother Darling, let me home to my mother Love, let me home to my mother I only came for the cattle. It was only last night That I heard that my love was herding And though you found me at the perimeter of the cattle fold Love, let me home as you found me. I was clambering up the dykes And descending the ridges When a friendly lad met me And he did not enforce his friendship on me. Though you were to give me cattle and sheep Though you were to give me tethered horses Though you were to give me that and men Love, let me home as you found me. My mother and father will chastise you My clan and my relatives will chastise you But my three brothers will kill you If I don’t return home as I came. My mother promised me a gown Decorated with the newest of ribbons And she promised me a new plaid If I return home the way you found me.

Well a Scotsman clad in kilt left a bar one evening fair And one could tell by how he walked that he'd drunk more than his share He fumbled round until he could no longer keep his feet Then he stumbled off into the grass to sleep beside the street Ring ding diddle iddle I de oh ring di diddly I oh He stumbled off into the grass to sleep beside the street About that time two young and lovely girls just happened by And one says to the other with a twinkle in her eye See yon sleeping Scotsman so strong and handsome built I wonder if it's true what they don't wear beneath the kilt Ring ding diddle iddle I de oh ring di diddly I oh I wonder if it's true what they don't wear beneath the kilt They crept up on that sleeping Scotsman quiet as could be Lifted up his kilt about an inch so they could see And there behold, for them to view, beneath his Scottish skirt Was nothing more than God had graced him with upon his birth Ring ding diddle iddle I de oh ring di diddly I oh Was nothing more than God had graced him with upon his birth They marveled for a moment, then one said we must be gone Let's leave a present for our friend, before we move along As a gift they left a blue silk ribbon, tied into a bow Around the bonnie star, the Scot's kilt did lift and show Ring ding diddle iddle I de oh ring di diddly I oh Around the bonnie star, the Scots kilt did lift and show Now the Scotsman woke to nature's call and stumbled toward the trees Behind a bush, he lifts his kilt and gawks at what he sees And in a startled voice he says to what's before his eyes. O lad I don't know where you been but I see you won first prize Ring ding diddle iddle I de oh ring di diddly I oh O lad I don't know where you been but I see you won first prize

This is one of our songs as performed at the National Mòd, Stornoway in October 2016. "An Innis Aigh" means "The Isle of Joy" and expresses the wish of a man wanting to return to this beautiful island to spend the rest of his days there. Translation under "Show More". Sing this song to the Isle of Joy The green island of the whitest of beaches The elements sometimes pound it cruelly But it is my desire to be living there The sun rising in the dusky morning Shining happiness in its journey westward With warm rays and joyful brightness Its first welcome is to the Isle of Joy When the ocean is full of heavy rollers With the howling wind stirring up the waves The ship creaking in the hardship of its trial There will be perfect calm in the Isle of Joy Short is the time till the day is spent The night will come and I’ll seek rest My eternal sleep will be O so tranquil If my pillow is in the isle of Joy Sing this song to the Isle of Joy The green island of the whitest of beaches The elements sometimes pound it cruelly But it is my desire to be living there.

HELLO GUYS HOW R U ALL , IN THIS VIDEO IM TALK ABOUT SCOTLAND. scotland (/ˈskɒt.lənd/; Scots: [ˈskɔt.lənd]; Scottish Gaelic: Alba [ˈal̪ˠapə] (About this sound listen)) is a country that is part of the United Kingdom and covers the northern third of the island of Great Britain. It shares a border with England to the south, and is otherwise surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, with the North Sea to the east and the North Channel and Irish Sea to the south-west. In addition to the mainland, the country is made up of more than 790 islands, including the Northern Isles and the Hebrides. The Kingdom of Scotland emerged as an independent sovereign state in the Early Middle Ages and continued to exist until 1707. By inheritance in 1603, James VI, King of Scots, became King of England and King of Ireland, thus forming a personal union of the three kingdoms. Scotland subsequently entered into a political union with the Kingdom of England on 1 May 1707 to create the new Kingdom of Great Britain. The union also created a new Parliament of Great Britain, which succeeded both the Parliament of Scotland and the Parliament of England. In 1801, Great Britain itself entered into a political union with the Kingdom of Ireland to create the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Within Scotland, the monarchy of the United Kingdom has continued to use a variety of styles, titles and other royal symbols of statehood specific to the pre-union Kingdom of Scotland. The legal system within Scotland has also remained separate from those of England and Wales and Northern Ireland; Scotland constitutes a distinct jurisdiction in both public and private law. The continued existence of legal, educational, religious and other institutions distinct from those in the remainder of the UK have all contributed to the continuation of Scottish culture and national identity since the 1707 union with England. In 1997, a Scottish Parliament was re-established, in the form of a devolved unicameral legislature comprising 129 members, having authority over many areas of domestic policy. Scotland is represented in the United Kingdom Parliament by 59 MPs and in the European Parliament by 6 MEPs. Scotland is also a member of the British–Irish Council, and sends five members of the Scottish Parliament to the British–Irish Parliamentary Assembly. We are four Bostonians who perform celtic folk music from Nova Scotia. We all have at least one parent from Nova Scotia and spent lots of time there growing up. We also embrace being from Boston and have been influenced by the rich Irish traditions of our area. Our fiddler Doug Lamey is the grandson of Boston Cape Breton fiddling legend Bill Lamey. He's been playing since he was a kid and has studied with some of the greats from both the Cape Breton tradition (Buddy MacMaster) and Irish fiddle scene (Tommy Peoples). http://www.douglamey.com/ We are lucky to have two of the best stepdancers in the Boston area, Pam Campbell and Christine Morrison. Pam is the daughter of fiddling legend John Campbell. Christine is the daughter of Peggy Morrison who is president of the Gaelic Club in Watertown, MA. Pam & Christine have been dancing together for 16 years and have shared the stage with Natalie MacMaster and Ashley MacIsaac to drop some names. I sing in both English and Scottish Gaelic. I play guitar and Irish Tin whistle and make my living as a musician/storyteller. I am steeped in Irish music on my dads side of the family (Clifford's in Sliabh Luachra) and Scottish on moms side. I recieved my MA in Folklore from Memorial University in Newfoundland. http://www.cliffmcgann.com/ We've all played together informally over the years but are finally making it official. We've settled on the name The Boston Kiltics as it captures our love of Scottish folk music but also the fact we are from Boston and proud. This was recorded for a local TV station and is only our second official gig together. Visit us on the Web @ http://www.bostonkiltics.com Visit us on MySpace @ http://www.myspace.com/bostonkiltics

The Scottish Island Voices Project (Guthan nan Eilean) visits Ireland. This documentary has a Manx Gaelic commentary. You can also hear some Irish and Scottish Gaelic conversations with dual language (Manx and Irish or Scottish Gaelic) subtitles.
