According to critics, Sandberg's new book "Lean in: Women, Work and the Will to Lead" does not take into account the average woman and those that struggle to balance the roles of businesswoman, mother, and wife. Others suggest that Sandberg rallies for women across the board and believes that ALL women should have the motivation and courage to succeed in the world of business. According to Sandberg's TED discussion, she asserts "The numbers tell the story quite clearly. 190 heads of state — nine are women. Of all the people in parliament in the world, 13 percent are women. In the corporate sector, women at the top, C-level jobs, board seats — tops out at 15, 16 percent . . . Domestic violence related laws: Then and now

02:48:50
The complexity of law's response to domestic and family violence is evidenced in the 2010 Australian, and New South Wales, Law Reform Commissions' two-volume report Family violence -- A National Legal Response. This voluminous work, totalling more than 2000 pages was instigated in 2009 by the Australian Government in its immediate response to Time for Action: The National Council's Plan for Australia to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children. Observing the principle "no law, policy or practice should jeopardise the safety or wellbeing of women and their children", the National Council had highlighted wide-spread concern about the interaction between the Family Law Act 1975 and state and territory domestic and family violence and child protection legislation and recommended the inquiry that ensued. These are not the only laws that impact on women and children affected by domestic and family violence and a second inquiry on the impact of all Commonwealth law on families affected by domestic and family violence was commissioned by the Australian Government and released in 2012. This year, changes to the Family Law Act 1975 commenced on the 7th of June, and Queensland's new Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012 will commence on the 17th of September. The objectives of both sets of legislative reforms include prioritising safety for children exposed to domestic and family violence, and addressing unintended negative consequences of the law. These legislative reforms, and commonwealth law specifically relevant to immigrant women, are the focus of discussion in this seminar.

Are Chiropractors Really Bullsh*t? (Special Release: Podcast + BONUS Article!)

55:19
Click here for the full episode: https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/chiro Last week, podcaster and comedian Joe Rogan interviewed (click here to watch or listen) a woman who calls herself the "SciBabe" (Yvette d'Entremont) about her juicy, controversial, attention-grabbing article on The Outline entitled "Chiropractors Are Bullshit". Now don't get me wrong - Yvette has some interesting ideas and I appreciate both her willingness to question some of the more radical aspects of alternative medicine and potential quackery, as well as her ability to keep us all on our feet and wary of being duped by ineffective therapies. She's even been a podcast guest on my episode "Is The Food Babe Really Full Of Sh*t?". At the same time, I see a chiropractor regularly. Some of my dear friends are chiropractors. From sacroiliac joint issues to neck pain to digestive problems, chiropractors have fixed my body many a time. So I wanted to give someone from the chiropractor community a chance to speak up on the actual science and evidence-based research of chiropractic medicine. Enter Dr. Jason Jaeger, DC, FCBP. Jason is a chiropractic physician at Advanced Spine & Posture in Las Vegas. He has practiced since 1999 and has been a chiropractic physician in Las Vegas since 2001 where he has brought his passion for health and wellness to the community that he and his family have called home since the late 1940’s. He is the Administrative Director of Aliante Integrated Physical Medicine, one of Nevada’s leading integrated physical medicine practices. Dr. Jaeger is one of only approximately 1000 chiropractors around the world trained in Chiropractic BioPhysics®, a technique which corrects and restores the spine back to alignment, and one of only 19 instructors for the CBP technique. Dr. Jaeger is also Board Certified in Nevada in CBP®. He is the developer of the Universal Tractioning System (UTS) and received the “2014 Researcher of the Year” award for the Advancement of Chiropractic Science at the Annual Chiropractic BioPhysics® Research Symposium held in New York City. Dr. Jaeger attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) during his undergraduate program and graduate school at Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCUHS). As class representative and Student American Chiropractic Association Vice President SCUHS chapter, he successfully lobbied in Washington D.C. for such issues as Medicare and HMO reform. Dr. Jaeger participated in a rotation through Cal State Northridge’s prestigious Physical Therapy program where he successfully integrated neuro-musculoskelatal therapies on paralysis and stroke victims. Dr. Jaeger currently holds adjunct faculty positions at Southern California University of Health Sciences in Whittier, CA; Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, KS; Parker University in Dallas, TX; and Palmer Chiropractic University in Davenport, IA. He is the Secretary of the International Chiropractic Association’s (ICA) Research and Guidelines committee (FACTS). Dr. Jaeger is a professional speaker and has lectured throughout the United States, Europe and Australia on spinal biomechanics, research and the clinical work he has performed. He is a published author in the peer-reviewed literature on clinical biomechanics. Dr. Jaeger is a literature-reviewing doctor for the International Chiropractic Association’s Best Practices Guidelines, a guideline recognized & accepted federally by the National Clearinghouse of Guidelines. He is a past board member for the Nevada Chiropractic Association (NCA), is a current board member for the Nevada Chiropractic Council (NCC) and has been deemed an expert by the courts in the State of Nevada. During our discussion, you'll discover: -What Jason thinks of Yvette's statement that "little more than the buffoonery of a 19th-century lunatic who derived most of his medical theory from séances"...[8:00] -Whether those in chiropractic medicine actually respect Daniel David Palmer, founder of chiropractic medicine...[11:42] -Whether it is true that "The defining principle of chiropractic is that health is a state that can be either maintained or lost due to vertebral subluxations"...[13:30] -The type of chiropractic care Jason practices, and the difference between evidence based chiropractic care and "quacks"...[22:40] -What Jason's schooling looked like, and whether it is true that 100% of chiropractic docs graduate from their institution...[26:20] -How big of a problem is "quackery" in chiropractic care, and Jason's thoughts on some of the people Yvette discusses in her article, like Josh Axe, Billy Demoss, and Eric Berg...[30:40] -Where medicine and supplements fit into Jason's practice, and whether his supplements are regulated...[41:00 & 45:50] -What Jason thinks about infant chiropractic care...[47:00] -How you can know if you're getting a "good" vs. a "bad" chiropractic doc...[52:05] -And much more! He has played with blues greats such as Son House, Mance Lipscomb, Fred McDowell, Jim Brewer, Rev. Gary Davis and many others. Ernest Leroy Hawkins was born in Pittsburgh PA in 1947. In the '50's he had a paper route, a beagle and a Roy Rodgers harmonica (which he still has somewhere). He first learned country guitar, mandolin, banjo and bones from a guy named Pete who worked on his Uncle's farm. Pete had come up playing with the Lilly Brothers and had rambled around the country - taking a 30-year detour down whisky lane that landed him in a cabin on the farm as property caretaker...and becoming a primary musical mentor to Ernie.

Ernie was already playing blues as a teenager when he heard a fellow passing through town play Gary Davis' "Let Us Get Together". He was hooked then and forever on country blues and ragtime guitar...and players like Davis, Blind Willie McTell, Blind Blake, Willie Johnson, Skip James, John Hurt, Leadbelly...

Right after high school, Ernie moved to New York City with only one purpose - to track down and study with Rev. Gary Davis. In '69 he moved back home, enrolled in the University of Pittsburgh and earned a degree in philosophy. During this time, Ernie played with Niles Jones, a blues player living in the city and "rediscovered" in the '90's as Guitar Gabriel.

In 1973 Ernie moved to Dallas for graduate school and earned a Ph.D. in phenomenological psychology. Again he managed to find the blues scene and hooked up with players all over the southwest - learning some Lemon Jefferson, Funny Papa Smith, Henry Thomas and Lightnin' Hopkins. So, with Ph.D. in hand, Ernie wandered back into music.

In the early '80's he recorded his first solo album of ragtime guitar," Ragtime Signatures". His second CD "Blues Advice" was dedicated to the memory of his teacher, Reverend Gary Davis on the occasion of the centennial of his birth. The CD includes three songs taught to Ernie by Davis: "Penitentiary Blues", "Florida Blues" and "Will There Be Stars in My Crown" that have never been previously recorded. Ernie's third CD "Bluesified" regularly plays in the preemie and chemo units of a Pittsburgh hospital where it is considered an integral part of the healing process. "Mean Little Poodle" was Editor's Choice in Acoustic Guitar magazine. Ernie's latest CD "Rags & Bones" has been declared by many to be his best. For ten years he played electric guitar with the Blue Bombers, one of Pittsburgh's favorite R&B bands.
Instructional videos on Lightnin' Hopkins, Blind Willie McTell, Mance Lipscomb, Rev. Gary Davis and guitar theory are available for purchase from this website. Ernie has taught at most of the major guitar camps in the world. Ernie has been featured in SingOUT!, Fingerstyle Guitar, Dirty Linen, Acoustic Guitar, Blues Revue and Vintage Guitar magazines. He has appeared on "A Prairie Home Companion", "Mountain Stage" , "Woodsongs Old-Time Radio Hour" and XM radio. Ernie appears on Maria Muldaur's Grammy and Handy nominated and Indie Award winning album "Richland Woman Blues" and was the guitarist for the national support tour.

"Ernie Hawkins is an important link in the unbroken chain of blues and gospel artists. His guitaristry and love of the style is incomparable. From the Rev. Gary Davis into the future with his own style Ernie is one of the special ones!" Jorma Kaukonen © Copyright Ernie Hawkins 2010

Live performance recorded at: Rex Theater, Pittsburgh, PA What'cha Gonna Do? is featured on Ernie Hawkins' CD, Bluesified available at: http://www.erniehawkins.com Learn more about and connect with Ernie Hawkins at http://www.facebook.com/erniehawkins © Copyright Ernie Hawkins 2010 This project is partially supported by a grant from Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour, a program developed by the Heinz Endowments; the William Penn Foundation; the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency; and the Pew Charitable Trusts; and administered by Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation. http://www.pennpat.org Ernie Hawkins Biography   For many years Ernie Hawkins has been playing concerts, clubs, blues and folk festivals, workshops, colleges, museums, parties, fist fights and millennium celebrations in the United States, Canada, Japan and Europe and at every stop in the road from A Prairie Home Companion to Antone's to the Madrid Jazz Festival.

Kristen Cox 2012 Business & Enterprise Award

04:32
Kristen Cox is the Executive Director of Utah's Department of Workforce Services, serving in Governor Gary Herbert's cabinet. Since her appointment in 2007, Kristen has overseen structural changes to the Department that have not only saved taxpayers over $30 million, but also re-focused and re-energized employment programs statewide by tying together Utah's workforce, education and economic development constituencies. A former Presidential appointee, Kristen Cox is a nationally recognized expert on workforce and re-employment strategies and a key advisor to the National Governor's Association (NGA), the U.S. Senate Finance Committee, and the U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means. Her congressional testimony in 2011 resulted in legislation calling for sweeping reforms to the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), and she authored the NGA's 2012 position paper on WIA. Since 2007, Utah, DWS, and Kristen have received numerous awards, including the 2011 Unemployment Insurance (UI) Triple Crown, which is three Awards of Excellence for unemployment benefit payments, appeal decisions and tax operations. This award is significant as Utah is the first state in the UI program's 76 year history to receive all three awards. Kristen is blind, but being blind has never held Kristen back in her professional career or prevented her from living a full life. Despite the demands of running one of the largest agencies in the State of Utah, she is an active participant in her community and church. On Sundays and throughout the week she spends time teaching and working with her congregation's youth. Kristen is passionate about fitness and can often be found walking her dog or jogging outside. She cherishes being a wife and mother and participating as an active and involved parent in her children's lives. Pioneers of Progress: The Days of '47 recognizes modern-day pioneering accomplishments of men and women who have notably uplifted and benefited humanity, and the organization encourages and teaches pioneering principles.

Black Longhorns of UT: Kaitlyn Jones- Dancing toward a degree

05:01
Kaitlyn Jones says the reason she dances is "to get away and to make change." Dancing has not only been a passion of Kaitlyn, but also something she sees as a significant compliment to her future career aspiration in dance therapy. An upcoming junior at the University of Texas at Austin, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance, Kaitlyn grew up trained in ballet, and has been introduced to a diverse repertoire of dance styles during her time at UT. Although being a dance major can be challenging, Kaitlyn is grateful for the opportunity of creativity and self-discovery dance can bring. This video is part of a UT NABJ project that highlights black individuals on the University of Texas at Austin campus. This video was filmed and edited in the Spring of 2017 by the 2017-2018 Secretary Allyson Waller, the former 2016-2017 Vice President Rachael Malonson, and NABJ member Onaje Mcdowelle. At UT, there are more than 50,000 students on campus. However, only about 4% of that student population is black. This low percentage is also consistent with the faculty and staff members on campus. This project hopes to highlight unique individuals and show the diversity within the small population of black Longhorns on the Forty Acres. -------- Follow UT NABJ on: Twitter: https://twitter.com/UTNABJ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UT-National-Association-of-Black-Journalists-1413320542213577/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ut_nabj/
