But dont lose hope even though this video has a pretty harsh title I'm here to help and to start we have to go over the six most common reasons why your abs aren't showing. By learning the reasons and fixing the mistakes that I'm going to go over in this video you should be on your way to six pack abs in no time. But a big disclaimer is that you have to actually make the changes that I recommend you can't just watch the video and hope that you get abs. So let's jump right In, the first reason why your abs aren't showing is because you're not choosing a variety of exercises with a full range of motion, and you're getting minimal negative contraction. It's a common known fact that the negative portion of any movement is where the most muscular breakdown occurs. It's also commonly known that in order for your muscles to grow and come back stronger you have to first effectively break those muscles down. Meaning if we want our ABS to show we should definitely Focus on the part of the movement that breaks down the most muscle which once again is the negative portion. The mistake that a lot of people are making is that they primarily focus on movements that only allow for minimal negative contraction because those movements can't be done with a full range of motion. Let me give you some examples to further drive this home. A Super common exercise is the crunch on the cable cross with a Rope where you sit on your knees & you have the Rope behind your head & you crunch down. Even though I admire this exercise because it's actually weighted the angle that the weight is pulling on your abs is already problematic & on top of that you can only come up to neutral. I say the angle is problematic because you lose abdominal tension before you even come up to neutral. Meaning you have a very small negative range of motion & most of your work is done within a very short range. It would be like doing a bicep curl only going down to about sixty degrees rather than fully extending the elbows 180 degrees. Lets look at another example crunches on the ground only allow you to move from a neutral position to your shoulder blades slightly elevated off the ground. Again very little range of motion especially in the negative aspect the most negative you can get is neutral. Leg raises on the floor have the same issue the floor will prevent you from giving your abs the stretch they can definitely use to grow. Also with regular leg raises the angle will again take tension off the abs except in limited ranges of motion. The plank is another example it's simple an isometric contraction meaning no negative at all. To get around this problem focus primarily on doing far more effective exercises. For example during the declined sit up the angle is set up in such a way that the tension will not come off of your abs at any point so the negative portion starts at the top of your situp & continues all the way to the bottom because of the way the angle is setup. This allows you to open up your abs more & get more muscle breakdown. Same thing with a stability ball sit up you can curve your back around the ball allowing you to go past the point of neutral. Normally the floor would be the end of your movement during a regular crunch, but with the stability ball you have a longer negative range of motion. Another upgrade would be leg raises hanging from a bar or hanging off the edge of a bench. These exercises accomplish the same thing they give you more room to work the negative portion of the movement. I'm not saying to not do those other movements but your bread-and-butter should be exercises that allow a full range of motion & provide more negative tension like the decline sit up like hanging leg raises like stability ball sit ups. And then sprinkling in the short range of motion exercises like crunches to help finish off your abs. The next mistake you're making is that your trying to get abs by just training your abs. Many of you have a layer of fat covering your abs, & as important as it is to build up the muscles to have them pop out it's also equally important to burn off the layer of fat sitting on top of your abs. You'll never burn off that layer of fat by doing crunches because there is no way to target fat burn.

And it's the same training method that I use for Kim. It's mostly about eating. I mean, people think it's in the exercise, but if you're not eating right consistently, then it's just never going to happen. You know, her diet has come a long way and has changed a lot in terms of just eliminating processed foods and just getting her to eat real food. So if it comes in a box, if it didn't grow off a tree or the earth didn't give it to you, then just stay away from it. Fresh foods, unprocessed foods, and only water. As for the workouts, I would do something that's mixed, so that there's weight training, there's high-intensity interval training and there's steady state cardio. For now, you know I train Kim consistently. Sometimes I train her sisters Khloe and Kourtney. Kim Kardashian: She's even Snapchatting on my workout with Melissa. I give her the privilege of working out with her one time. Alcantara: I honestly, I just love her. She's also like one of the best clients that you could ever have. She doesn't cancel. She's always there. Kardashian: This is what I'm doing today. Alcantara: A lot of our sessions are at 6 a.m. I wake up at 4. So we train about five, six days a week. It ranges from an hour to an hour and a half. We do a lot of squats, deadlifts, chest press, overhead press, a ton, a ton of sprints. We do pull-ups, dips, but I would say that 85% of our training is weight training. You have to put the work in. You have to be intense, you have to struggle with every rep and feel it. It doesn't mean that you're gonna be Arnold and get huge. Kardashian: You guys, she's trying to kill me. Alcantara: Only a little bit. Kardashian: Officially trying to kill me. Alcantara: In the beginning, you know, I was sitting on my couch. I had gained 70 pounds with my daughter and I saw this infomercial for Insanity, which is a home workout program. And I saw these people's transformations. And I packed up all my food, I never cheated, only drank water, never missed a workout and 60 days later, I was 40 pounds lighter. I decided I wanted to do a bodybuilding competition in December of 2015. I won first place in Miss Figure and Miss Physique and that's when Kim contacted me. So she saw my transformation picture on Instagram. She was like scrolling through Instagram at 4 o'clock in the morning and she was like, "Wow, this woman, she's a Mom. She lives a regular life. Look at how she changed her life." She was looking for something that was sustainable. She didn't want to just lose weight fast and then you know, gain it again. It's a lifestyle. I had no expectations of becoming a celebrity trainer. I'm not thinking, "Oh yeah, I'm going to train Oprah tomorrow." I just hope that they get the results they're looking for. And every time she sees a new muscle growing or new lines, new definition — Kardashian: Do you guys see my muscles? Alcantara: The look on her face just makes me like super excited for her, because I know exactly what that feels like. Kardashian: Hamstrings, my favorite. It was a formula created by Belgian mathematician Adolphe Quetelet. It takes your weight (sorry my fellow Americans, everyone else is on the metric system) in kilograms divides and divides it by height in meters squared. And from this you get a number that represent your total body mass relative to your height and weight. The ranges go from underweight to obese, and one decimal point can tip you in either direction. BMI has been used to study obesity in large populations, and for the most part it’s okay for those types of studies. However, when individual health is the topic at hand, using the body mass index can make judging a person’s health a little bit trickier. Hypertrophy, (or the growth of the muscle cell, occurs during the rest and healing process of the muscle) So what would happen if you did 100 push ups a day? Here are the 3 things that could happen. According to Len Kravitz From the University of New Mexico, Neural adaptation is responsible for most of your strength gains at the beginning (first 2-8 weeks), while hypertrophy takes longer and will represent most of your strength gains afterward. Meaning the harder the session the more rest & recovery is fine. As for sets and reps, the sweet spot was low to mid range, ranges as 1 – 5 repetitions being low, 6 – 12 . Any higher and you may not be hitting the threshold for optimal strength gains. As for volume, number of sets. You at least want to be hitting 3 sets. And up to 5. Alrighty guys! You all have been asking so here it is! A full day of eating. I also incorporated one of my weekly AB Circuits in there since diet and abs go hand in hand. My Diet: I am currently aiming around 1,800 calories a day and this is a slight caloric deficit for myself. I do this so that I can slowly shed body fat while keeping/slowly building muscle. Yes, it is possible to build muscle in a small deficit.If you are looking to build muscle the fastest way possible, eating in a caloric surplus is ideal but eating in a huge caloric surplus and putting on a bunch of excess body fat is also not needed. This is why I prefer to be patient and do small deficits and surpluses. I do not track my macros, I don't count calories ( I did today for the sake of the video) as I am aware of the foods I am eating since I eat similar foods everyday. I do not eat at specific times. I eat when I am hungry and stop when I am full.. or when my plate is empty lol. Finding what works for your body is a process and forever changing because as you grow, your body changes and so will your diet. This is why I STRESS to you to not copy someone else diet but take inspiration or suggestion from it and do your own research and match it with what will work for you and your body/goals. Like I said in the video, some times I will eat whatever the heck I want, but will put my butt back in check the next day. My best advice is to be aware of when your going to go off track, eat light before hand, and make sure to get right back on track after to avoid falling off completely. It is okay to enjoy life a little and still be fit and healthy! The vertical diet is something that really helped me with my bloating and kinda altered the types of foods I eat or should alter if I am ever struggling with bloating. Being strictly on that diet is also the most strong, full and energized I have ever felt while maintaining a caloric deficit. I am in no way shape or form affiliated with them, but I do think that it is worth checking out if you struggle with gut issues or are even just a super active person. I started my first week with meals I ordered from them and they were the bomb dot com..then I figured out how they made them all and the ingredients and now duplicate them myself at home! But… there are hidden dangers of eating sugar, particularly if it’s artificially added sugar, and especially if you’re eating it regularly. From your brain to your immune system to your taste buds, the negative effects of sugar on physical health are high. 1. Brain (0:45) So, what does sugar do to your brain? Sugar activates the reward centers in your brain in the same way as drugs like heroin and cocaine. Sugar is highly addictive and these reward driven feedback loops lead to cravings and addiction in much the same way. This is damaging to your brain, and in fact, Alzheimer’s disease and age onset dementia are now being dubbed type 3 diabetes, due to them being a glucose-insulin resistance and sugar disease in your brain. 2. Energy (2:04) What happens when you eat too much sugar? You get a massive rise in blood sugar levels, followed by a crash in energy and a craving for more sugar to boost you back up again. This vicious cycle is one of the main reasons you may eat more sugar. If you control your blood sugar levels evenly throughout the day, your energy would be stable, and you wouldn’t need the sugary ‘pick-me-up’ to boost your energy. 3. Immune System (3:29) Increased levels of sugar make your immune system act like it’s drunk. Your cells are tired, lethargic, and do not detect pathogens. This leads to a low immunity level and an increased likeliness of sickness. In fact, lack of sleep and a high sugar diet is the quickest way to fall ill. Avoiding high sugar foods will make sure your immune system is working properly and you better protect yourself from illness and disease. 4. Fat Cells (4:11) High sugar foods don't keep you full, and even though they’re calorie dense, they're not satiating. You can put away a bag of skittles or a bar of chocolate and feel hungry again within 20 minutes. This leads to you eating more to curb your hunger and therefore increasing the number of calories you eat each day. This pattern over a long period will lead to fat gain and increase the negative effects of sugar on your body. 5. Taste buds (5:17) A high sugar diet will lead to a change in the perceived sweetness of foods on your taste buds. This can occur even if your sugar intake is from sugar substitutes, like diet sodas. Your taste buds get so used to being bombarded with sweetness that they are no longer as receptive to a sugary taste. You’ll need more sugar to get the same level of sweet taste. When you move away from a high sugar diet, your taste buds re-calibrate, and you’ll start to appreciate the good flavors of healthier food. 6. Liver (6:44) Your liver is your body’s main metabolic organ, and it stores sugar to be released when we need it. Your liver converts fructose sugar to fat. In today’s mass production of food, most fructose is being artificially added to processed foods in the form of high fructose corn syrup. This fructose storage can lead to ‘fatty liver’, where the liver cells actually get replaced by fat cells. Your liver will not function properly, meaning it doesn’t process toxins and doesn’t metabolize fat. 7. Cancer (8:13) Sugar feeds cancer and fuels the growth of tumors in the body. With the fuel it needs to grow, and the reduction in your immune system (also caused by sugar), you’re setting up a perfect environment for cancer. Low sugar and low carb diets are being used and researched as a way of naturally reducing tumor size in cancer sufferers. Summary (9:22) Excess sugar has negative impacts right throughout your body. That's not to say you can never eat something sweet. The lesson here is to avoid things like candy, sodas, high sugar fruit juices, etc. and stick with things like whole fruit. My friend and I were shopping at the independence center in independence, Missouri(Near Kansas City), when we were done we decided to get a bite to eat at Applebee’s. About an hour into out dinner we were approached by a Independence police officer, a mall cop, and the restaurant manager. We were told that we were accused of eating and not paying for CHICKEN the day before (dining and dashing). Mind you that we have proof that can show our whereabouts and it’s not even in our character to steal. After being mocked, humiliated, and embarrassed we were asked to pay for our food, leave, and not come back. After leaving, calls were made to the restaurant and the manager stated that our accuser remembered that there was a SKINNY girl and a girl who wore MAKEUP. In 2018 is this really what we’re debased to? Our weight and whether or not we wore makeup. She could not recognize any facial features or any defining characteristics . This is a clear example of RACIAL PROFILING that should not be stood for. Just because we are black does not mean we are all criminals and I will not be treated as such. When you break your fast, during your feeding window you want to stick to foods that don't spike your blood sugar, and more importantly don't spike your insulin levels. And those two things aren't always the same. As many of you already know one of the major benefits of fasting is that it'll allow you lower your insulin levels. Insulin is a fat storage hormone that serves as a bridge between your cells and the nutrients coming into your body. Your body will also stop burning fat when insulin levels are elevated. When we fast we are not just looking to lower calories by not eating, even though fasting will definitely do this the main goal of fasting for fat loss is to decrease insulin levels. And there really is no better solution for doing just that, when you simply don't eat your bodies insulin levels are naturally at their lowest. However, what most people don't realize is that even if you fast perfectly, once you break your fast you can spike your blood sugar and insulin levels high enough to cause your body to actually store fat rather than burn it. So if you want to burn fat at the fastest rate the goal has to be to keep your insulin levels low even after breaking your fast. We can do that by understanding some basic principles and then making a decision on what to eat during your feeding window around those key concepts. First let's get the obvious out of the way.... sweets, processed foods, and junk food will spike your insulin levels the highest while providing the lowest amount of nutrients. So if you want to burn fat faster after breaking your fast stick only to real wholesome single ingredient foods. Most of these foods you'll find by sticking to the outside aisles of your local grocery store or supermarket while avoiding the inner aisles. Next you have to know that carbohydrates have the biggest impact on your insulin levels, certain types of dairy have equally as big of an impact, other sources of protein have a moderate impact, and fat has the smallest impact. By not overindulging in carbohydrates and dairy after breaking your fast you'll already be miles ahead of most people. Since fasting is supposed to be a flexible dieting structure, I don't want you to restrict your carbs or dairy to nothing. In fact by doing that it'll probably make you want to have them even more. Instead I want you to break your fast with a large serving of vegetables in order to fill your stomach up and take the edge off your hunger. Then move on to your protein & fat sources, and then if you're still hungry you can move on to some low glycemic carbohydrates & dairy. This will allow you to limit your insulin spikes during your feeding window without actually thinking about it & without restrictions. Let's move on to the second way to burn fat faster that goes hand in hand with the first tip we just went over. I'm talking about keto fasting. Keto fasting is a combination of the ketogenic diet & fasting. This will make your diet a little less flexible because you will have to adhere to a certrain macronutrient split, but it's an incredibly effective way to speed up the amount of fat lost from fasting. Here you would start by setting up a regular intermittent fasting & feeding window. An common example would be to break your fast at 1 o clock & then switch back to fasting at 9 o clock. But during that 8 hour feeding window, with this method you'll actually want to keep your carbohydrate consumption under only 5 to 10 percent of your total daily caloric intake.
