It's Mike Chang with Six Pack Shortcuts and today I'm going to be showing you 5 exercises that you can do at home to get some big ass shoulders! All you need is pair of dumbbells. It's routines like this that will maximize your gains and get you the crazy ripped body of your dreams with long-term results. 0:15 Key thing to remember when working shoulders: - You need to work them from all 3 angles: 1) Front Delts 2) Side Delts 3) Rear Delts ** If you're not hitting all 3 parts, then you're going to have an obvious imbalance in your shoulders that will both affect your strength and be noticeable to others. 0:54 It's important that when you're doing your workouts that you know what areas you're working -- It's all about feeling your muscles during your workouts, or having "muscle connection". Workout Breakdown: 5 Exercises / 10 Reps Each - 20 Push Ups / 5 Rounds / Minimal Rest - 15 to 20 seconds 1) 10 Side Laterals: - Works the side 2) 10 Hammer Front Raises: - Works the front 3) 10 Bent Over Laterals: - Works the rear 4) 10 Front Raises (to ceiling): - Works the front and rear 5) 20 Push Ups: - Works the front, even though it's mainly for your chest 2:53 I'm going to go through 1 full round to show you the correct form for each movement and where you should be feeling it. - This way you can do this at your own pace and get the other 4 rounds done on your own. ** Tips to remember: - Start with a weight that you can do about 12 reps with while maintaining good form. - As you move through this routine, it will get tougher! 3:21 If you're able to do 3 rounds with the full 10 reps but in the 4th are struggling and can only get 8 or so in... that's ok. - DON'T decrease your weight! - Even if you're fatiguing near the end of your workout, you need to maintain a moderate weight -- This is when it counts the most so you can put good SIZE on those shoulders. Let's Do This! Proper Form Breakdown: 3:55 1) Side Laterals: - Sit on the edge of the seat with your feet and knees together. - When doing the full range of motion, your hands will go down together under your thighs. - Start slightly bent over with your dumbbells together under your thighs. - Bring both arms out to your sides, not going higher than parallel to the floor, then back down to touch them together again. - As you raise up rotate your dumbbells so that the outside of your fists point towards the ceiling. - You can slightly bend your elbows here if you need to. 5:57 2) Hammer Front Raises: - Start in the same position as above, you still need room for a full range of motion. 6:43 It's very important not to swing your arms on this one... Think "Robot". - Start with your arms by your sides. - Bring the dumbbells straight up in front of you until your arms are parallel to the floor (think almost "touchdown" signal) then back down. - Pause at the top for a brief second to ensure that you don't start swinging through this. 7:41 3) Bent Over Laterals: - This move is very similar to the Side Laterals, except with this one you are fully bent over. - So again, start in the same seated position but bend at the waist to your chest is at your knees. - When you bend over you want to let your arms hang down, shoulders forward, really loosening those traps and stretch out as far as you can to each side. ** You do this to ensure that you are working those rear delts and not letting your back do all the work. 11:45 Rest for 30 seconds if you need to at the end of the round, but remember to keep rest time to a minimum. Lack of motion in your wrists can even hurt your ability to do bench press and pushups, therefore costing you a chance to build a bigger chest. With the quick fix I show you how to increase your range of motion in your wrists to more easily get into the position needed to lift heavy weights on these classic muscle building exercises. By performing this easy self mobilization, you're able to increase your wrist extension within minutes. Remember to squeeze beyond the point of your radius and ulna. here, apply pressure to the proximal row of the carpal bones in the downward direction as you move your wrist into extension. Do this about 10 times and then retest. You will see a large improvement in your range of motion that will carry over into your lifts. This increased range should give you the ability to lift heavier weights and build muscle much faster. I mean how hard can that be right? Well even though the deadlift exercise seems simple, it can be a challenging exercise for a beginner to master. There is a lot more going on with proper deadlift technique than you may realize. Most people think of the deadlift as a back exercise. But there are so many more muscles coming into play when you do the deadlift. Everything from your forearms, biceps, triceps, shoulders, traps, spinal errectors, hips, glutes, hamstrings, quadriceps, and calves. It's almost a total body exercise. The hardest part that beginners have when starting to deadlift is trying to learn the proper technique and activating the appropriate muscle groups in sync. So for this reason I recommend keeping things very simple and literally start your very first deadlift workout with just the empty barbell. When doing any new exercise your goal is to simply learn how to do the exercise with proper technique. You are not there to max out and try to set records. The first workout is to simply learn the correct deadlift technique Start off by deadlifting with the empty barbell to feel the correct movement pattern. Get in the rhythm of bending down and using both your back and legs simultaneously to lift and lower the barbell. After that put a couple 10 pound plates on the barbell and do another set. Just go through the motions and learn the proper technique. Then put another 10 pounds per side and do another set. If that feels good, add some more weight and just keep going doing set after set. As the weights get progressively heavier you'll start to feel the appropriate muscle groups working even more. For all of these sets keep the reps between 5-10 per set. Again you are just going through the motions and learning the exercise, you are not trying to simulate muscle growth and rep out until failure, all of that stuff will come later once you are comfortable doing deadlifts. During your first deadlift workout don't worry about doing "too many" sets. At the beginning you are just teaching your muscles how to do a new exercise and for this you need repetition. So it's ok to do 10, 15, even 20 sets of very light deadlifts to learn the proper movement pattern and motor control skills required to deadlift with proper form. Doing multiple sets of moderate weight, stopping short of failure, is the best way to learn how to perform any new exercise. When you lift too heavy, too soon, it causes your form to break down and you don't want to teach yourself bad habits right from the start. Take your time, master the proper technique first, then worry about training with progressive overload afterwards. Finally, make use of a high calorie shake or two throughout the day. It's much easier to drink your calories as opposed to eating them, and blending up a homemade shake is a great way to get in a high amount of calories in an easier way. For example, whey protein in milk blended with fruit, oatmeal and peanut butter works very well. So, if you find that you can't eat enough to gain muscle and need to figure out how to eat more calories to sustain an ongoing surplus, these 4 tips should be a big help.

I use the Evercoat Lite Weight Filler. It's the cheap stuff but it does the job. It cost about $22 a gallon. There are other kinds like Evercoat Rage. You will pay a little bit more but they say you get less pinholes and stuff but I haven't had much problem with the Evercoat Lite Weight. When you first open a can and it's been sitting for a long time, sometimes there's a film of glaze or liquid on the top. What I do is, get a paint stirrer to push the edges down, then go all the way around. Kind of like when you're making some mashed potatoes. You basically want to do this until it's all that Grey color. I use the paint stirrer to put the Bondo on my board and start mixing. I'll show you how to do that because I have to mix a little bit for this Gas Tank. Since I'm not the best welder (I'm not going to lie), I just basically put some tacks around the whole thing and I won't even bother to fill it in with weld because I'll probably just burn through it. What I do is, mix a very tiny amount of Bondo and fill all the cracks up. Make it all nice, sand it down, and then apply primer to the whole Gas Tank. I have to sand the whole thing down with a 150-grit sandpaper using a DA sander to get it all smoothed out. For next week's video, I will show you how to apply primer to it. Right now, we're only mixing the Bondo and putting it on. We only need a little bit of Bondo for the gas cap. Just take a smidge and mix it with the hardener. With the Hardener, what I usually do is...open it and squeeze the air out (you don't want to be massaging air). Then close it and give it a quick massage. You have to do this because sometimes it starts to separate inside that's why when you squeeze it, water comes out. Even if you get it brand new, it has probably been sitting in the warehouse for some time. Just make sure it's mixed really well. So I add a little bit of hardener to the Bondo. All I need is a drop...A little goes a long way. I may use my fingers just to fill it up, you know what I mean. Sometimes your fingers do things that tools cannot. :) For the Gas Tank, we put body filler all around the cap. Then we're going to sand it and make it look amazing. Once that's done, we'll apply the primer. It will be ready for painting very shortly. The Quad Top is all sanded down. It's just plastic. We just need to apply 2K Primer and have it ready for painting. I want to show you exactly how we do cool things like these from your home garage or from your little body shop. Proper squat form requires that you keep your head up, back angled slightly forward but straight, knees traveling outward as you descend, elbows tucked and chest out. Even with all of these tips and cues on how to squat properly, there is one major squat flaw that is still commonly performed. In this squat tutorial video I show you how to perform the squat exercise correctly by paying attention to the alignment of the hips in the transverse plane. Even when your feet are square and your chest is square to your feet, you can still mistakenly allow your hips to open up. This creates a rotational torsion on the pelvis. Though likely very small in absolute motion, this can lead to biomechanical changes in your squat that can cause hip, knee and back pain over time. It's important to learn how to squat properly and to learn proper squat form if you want to keep your gains coming while minimizing injuries to other joints. Form is an important part of any exercise, but it's critical when it comes to the squat, given the loads that are often involved in the lift. The same issue applies to the deadlift as well. In order to fix this squatting flaw you have to consciously contract your gluteus before every repetition of the squat. This will correct the alignment of the pelvis and make sure that your hips are not left open prior to the descent. It takes just an extra second per rep, but will pay large dividends to both your joint health as well as the gains you can see from your leg workouts. In Abiola's book, she discusses "mindful self-being"- being present in the moment. I love this because everyday you have a choice. You have a choice to be right, you have a choice to be happy. You have a choice to put on your heels or you have a choice to put on your sweats. And everyday you have control over one thing -- the choice of what food you put into your body. You know that when you put in good foods, you feel good automatically. After one good meal, you feel great. Imagine two healthy meals a day. Imagine 3. Imagine one week of all healthy meals...and one month...and one year. Imagine how good you will feel, not only about your decisions, but your physical body. When you are present with your food, you will eat slower, you will recognize what your body is craving in that moment, you will choose foods that your body will love you back for eating. You will eat to take care of your body because you want to nourish it and take care of it. Abiola talks about choosing appreciation. The more we appreciate our organs, our muscles, our digestive system, teeth, tongue, saliva, the more we will care what goes into our body that affect the way our joints feel after yoga, or muscles feel after a great swim, or digestive system feels after a good meal. When we appreciate our body, we want to take care of it. We want to nurture it. We want to do whatever it takes to make it feel good and to sustain that good feeling. Choose attention. Give full attention to not just what you eat but how you eat it. DO you watch tv while you eat? Do you stand in front of your computer? Do you have your phone next to you? Some tips: - Light a candle- illuminates, calms, brightens, fancifies - Plant- oxygenates, pretty, inexpensive, lasts, decorates - Music- light, calming, pretty, relaxing - Plate your meal - Put water in nice glass On the same note of how you eat, as abiola mentioned chocolate kiss experiment. In my practice and at all of my lectures, I talk about chewing. It was the number two thing I learned at nutrition school that dramatically changed the way my body feels. When we chew mindfully and swallow with a relaxed mind, my clients report back that they actually tasted the flavors of the food they ate, they enjoyed their company more, they didn't get a stomach ache, or over eat and naturally, they lose weight. Tip- 15-20 times per bite. When we pay attention to what we eat, we not only pay attention to the calories and grams of fat, we pay attention to the ingredients. Just because a package of pasta says "low carb" healthy, does not mean its healthy. Be a smart consumer and don't buy into the marketing companies and what they want you to buy. No one is going to take care of you better than you can. Be smart and Read ingredients. If you can't pronounce it, your body probably won't be able to digest it. Mindful Self-Being is being present and figuring out how you're feeling and what your body needs. Cravings are a message for your body. Those days that you're craving something sweet, its probably because you need more sweetness in your life (or water). Those days that you need ice cream, your craving something comforting. Hug yourself, buy yourself flowers. So before you reach for that chocolate, be present with your feelings. Then, reach for a chocolate bar that your body will love you back for eating. Before you reach for the icecream, figure out why you're feeling that way. Eat colorfully. The brighter your plate, with vegetables and fruit, the brighter your life, the prettier your plate and the healthier your insides. The more color, the more phytonutrients.
